Yummy Hair Extensions: Empowering Queens Through Quality Hair Products

For 8 years, Yummy Hair Extensions has been transforming customers into Queens by delivering premium hair extensions, wigs, and accessories. We believe every woman deserves to shine, radiate her unique gifts, and be honored. Our customers confirm that gorgeous Yummy hair provides an instant confidence boost, empowering them to take on the world.

Yummy Hair Extensions goes beyond being a hair brand. We engage with our community on pressing social issues affecting the Black community and beyond.

Founder Yummie O noticed that many Black women struggle to discuss their heritage easily, a result of slavery’s impacts and lack of cultural awareness. Women often conform to external expectations of being a ‘good’ Black woman, which may not reflect their true identity.

As a Black woman and business owner focused on confidence, Yummie took on this challenge by launching the #EmbraceYourHeritage campaign in July 2021. This initiative encourages women of color to explore and take pride in their ancestry, sparking conversations about historical shame and fostering curiosity and confidence in their roots.

How to Participate:

– Join the 30-day #EmbraceYourHeritage challenge on social media with daily prompts, inspiration, and ideas to learn and share heritage.

– Engage with powerful images and posts from women of color, including interviews with influencers like Vanessa Simmons and Summerella.

– Support charitable donations to non-profits led by and for women of color.

We are excited to launch the #EmbraceYourHeritage giveaway to support all the beautiful Queens on their journey. Three winners will receive a Yummy gift bag filled with luxe products from beloved beauty-makers, including Yummy Extensions, Kosa Professionals, Vorr Lashes, Jolie Lashes, Notiq, and many more.

To participate, simply follow our @yummyextensions Instagram page, like the giveaway post, and tag three friends to invite them to join the campaign.

Why now?

As poet Maya Angelou wrote, “The more you know of your history, the more liberated you are.” We firmly believe in this truth.

Black Americans are increasingly turning to DNA testing to uncover their African heritage, information that was once inaccessible due to incomplete historical records from the era of slavery. Despite this legacy, generations have overcome by building new cultural traditions. With advances in genetic testing through companies like 23andMe, exploring one’s roots has become more accessible than ever. Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and India Arie have researched their ancestry, visited ancestral homes, and shared how these experiences transformed their lives.

As genetic technology improves, testing has become more affordable and popular, sparking a “Heritage travel” trend among Black Americans to Africa based on DNA results.

However, DNA testing has limitations. As Nneka M. Okona notes, Black Americans are less tested, making heritage data less reliable. To address this, Black-owned companies like African Ancestry have emerged, focusing exclusively on Black customers.

Embracing heritage is a global challenge, not limited to the U.S. or Americans. Sipho Sikhakhane, a South African Zulu and Stanford MBA graduate, shares how embracing her identity shaped her leadership style. She offers tips for women who know their heritage but live far from their cultural communities:

• Maintain family traditions, even if you live far from family

• Join clubs and associations related to your culture

• Maintain your native language

• Educate and teach your ‘global’ friends about your culture

These are just some ways women are changing culture by embracing their heritage.

Yummy will share many more during its 30-day challenge.

Are you excited yet? We hope so.
