Helen Williams Breaks Guinness World Record for World’s Widest Wig

Follow us to see more amazing feats. The creator of the Guinness World Record for the longest handmade wig has set another record – the world’s widest wig! Helen Williams, from Nigeria, is 31 years old and holds three world records. In addition to the two mentioned above, she also holds the record for inserting 90 hairpins into a wig in 30 seconds. The wig she made is 3.65 meters wide and can reach the floor when worn.

To give a more vivid understanding of this width, let’s make a simple comparison: many people have driven or ridden in a Mini Cooper, a small car produced by the British car brand MINI, which is 3.63 meters long. According to Helen, the inspiration for making this wig came from Drew Barrymore. Drew Barrymore, born on February 22, 1975, in Calabasas, California, USA, is an American actress, director, and producer.

She has starred in many films, such as the sci-fi movie ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’, the romantic thriller ‘Mad Love’, the action-adventure movie ‘Charlie’s Angels’, the romantic movie ‘Singles’, and the comedy ‘The Wedding Singer’. In 2017, she wore a wig that was 2.23 meters wide on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, breaking the Guinness World Record for the widest wig that year. After watching Drew Barrymore’s challenge program, Helen, as a professional wig maker, believed she could also create the world’s widest wig.

She said: ‘I like to take on difficult tasks, which makes me better and teaches me new things.’ Helen introduced the wig-making process to us in detail. She spent 4,138,200 Naira (approximately 20,000 yuan) on materials, sewed over 800 strands of auburn hair together on a frame with a needle and thread, and embedded over 1,000 rhinestones on it. Most of the wig was handmade, but some parts used a sewing machine.

Helen told us that this was a huge project, and she spent several months planning and designing. She encountered many problems during the production process, such as being unable to walk or sit normally due to the long hours of making the wig. The first few days of the challenge were tough; she felt pain all over and had to endure neck, back, and thigh pain to complete every stage of production.

Due to the heaviness of the wig, it is challenging to wear it on the head. According to the rules, only challengers who wear the wig and complete the prescribed movements can be deemed successful in the challenge. She managed to accomplish this feat with her skilled expertise and an unwavering determination that is hard to imagine for most people. Helen displayed this wig in her office as a showcase and plans to keep it there indefinitely.

After successfully completing the challenge, Helen shared her experience, stating that when she first embarked on her record-breaking journey, she faced negative comments from skeptics on social media who doubted her ability to break the record. However, recent online comments about her have been very positive, with many people reaching out to learn more about her touching story. Helen is grateful to Guinness World Records for providing a platform to showcase her talents and looks forward to breaking more records in the hairpiece domain.

Helen concluded by saying, “No matter what we do, we must face difficulties head-on, move forward bravely, and never give up.” Discover your world from the perspective of records, Guinness World Records. A hairpiece wider than a car.
